Re:CM Reunion - 2005/10/13 08:52
Dear Nancy, Of course I remember you. It sounds like you really had a good time at the reunion! I do live in Missouri, a small town of 800,I love it. We're just 15 miles from the big metropolis of Cape Girardeau. It's a city of 40,000, and Southeast Missouri State University is there. Cape is the largest city between St. Louis and Memphis. I love the changed of seasons here. I,ve been married to Scotty for 17 yrs. I was widowed at the age of 33 and had a 7 and 9 yr. old. Mom and Dad had retired to MO. so we decided to follow them here. I met and married a man who was raising 3 boys. When we got marriwd we had a 11,12,13,14, and 16 yr. old. Everyone thought we were crazy, but through the grace of God we made it! I'm now blessed with 6 grandkids and have a great life. How about you? Where do you live, are you married, any grandkids? Thanks so much for writing back, Vicky

Hi, Vicky,

My goodness. You certainly had your hands full there for awhile. If you had been at the reunion, I think you would have won the prize (an imaginary prize) for having the most grandchildren. Wrennie Waterson has four.

I live in Altadena, only a few blocks away from where I lived when I was in high school. I've been married to Fred for 23 years and am a school psychologist in El Monte. I work with students from Kindergarten through 8th grade. No children, so no grandchildren, but I have 8 great-nephews and nieces, so our Christmases are pretty loud. We have two dogs, Spencer and Amanda, and they think they're humans. So do we, of course. Fred retired a couple of years ago from being a family therapist who worked with drug-addicted teenagers in a residential setting. I'm planning on retiring in 5 years and plan to spend my time gardening, doing ceramics, volunteering at a school, volunteering for a hospice, writing, and who knows what else. I may be busier than I am now. It's great to hear from you. I think the CMs are going to have yearly mini-reunions, maybe in August (at least it's been talked about), so if you happen to come out to California, maybe you can make it. Actually, if you come out some other time and let people know ahead of time, maybe a mini-reunion can be arranged. That's what happened last year when Nancy Whitaker Cooper came out from North Carolina. About 20 CMs met at Marie Callenders for dinner. I was sick so couldn't go, but they had a great time. Thanks for writing. Have a great weekend.

Nancy

Sounds like you've been busy too. I know first hand what a blessing christians in your and Freds professions are. 3 of my boys are recovering drug addicts. Trent. the youngest completed 16 months at Teen Challenge. The other 2 did 120 days in a state facility. I think 1 is doing great, but for the other 2 its a daily struggle. It's amazing what peace the Lord can give, because I know I never would make it without him. If and when we come to CA., I would love to have a mini reunion. It would be great to visit in person.

Vicky,

I have a niece who got involved in drugs and alcohol when she was in her teens and early twenties. Eventually she hit bottom and admitted she needed help. She got involved with Narcotics Anonymous and is doing well. Still goes to meetings all the time and met her husband there. It has been a great support group for them. And she's so much more open about her thoughts and feelings now. I'm really proud of her.

How old are your sons?

Nancy

Hi Nancy, Patrick is 29, married and has two kids. Clayton is 5 and in kindergagten, and Jada is 18 months. He lives just nortu of St. Louis and is doing great. Bill is 29 and a single Dad of Janie, who is 11. He struggles daily with his addiction and I think most days latelt he's losing. Trent is 27 and married, I think he's replaced his drugs for alcohol. I spend alot of time on my knees, and have faith Gog will take care of it in his time. Thats probably the hardest, is that I can't have my own timeline. Thanks, Vicky

Thanks, Vicky. Now I know how to pray. This is exactly why this site is such a great idea. I believe we have strong connections, despite the distance in space and time. I'm sure you and your family now have many more people praying for them.
