Navy PB4 Catalinas and trained men how to fly them in Corpus, but as soon as I got to Okinawa, my officers told me that I couldn't fly the planes anymore because I knew too much about them, he said. In Okinawa, I was a flight engineer/mechanic. The Seabees would build airstrips, when planes would come in, somebody would have to work on them and that's what I did.
