I was always fascinated by his piece, The Lovers. There s something intriguing about not being able to see the faces, and I think that also influenced my work. Very rarely would you see clear faces in my work, and I do that to give it a sense of anonymity and intrigue. What do flowing hair and clothes signify?I started doing a lot of flowing hair and dresses to give my pieces some movement, so you wouldn t feel like you re staring at a still image. I want people to feel like if they look at it for long, they can hear the wind, and feel it (even if it wasn t really there). I think it also goes back to the feeling of freedom; I love it when it s windy and cold. I spend most of my time in winter outside and the wind gives me this exhilarating feeling, like I m on top of the world. I try to make that permanent in my pictures. You say music and poetry have shaped your art. How has interior designing, which is your academic specialisation, shaped your pictures?I believe that interior design helped me understand some technical aspects of photography not f stops and shutter speed, but composition and perspective. I think it also helped me think about my locations much more than I would ve if I hadn t done interior design. Most of the time I shoot outdoors, but when I shoot indoors it does come in handy to make me more wary of my surroundings and how I should deal with them.You seem to be strong in colouring. How do colours help your work?Many people would disagree I desaturate my colours most of the time. I do love rich colours but not vibrant colours. Some of my pieces have really bright colours, like The Redeemed Soul (with the blue dress). But that one is still desaturated. I ve always loved how every colour makes you feel something. My favourite colour is a grey-blue but I also love the colour red. Grey-blue makes me think of winter, my favourite season. It feels so calming and it takes me to a whole other place. Red, to me, is strength and femininity.Do you photo shop? Does it take away or add to the probity of a work?My pieces only come together on photo shop. Every picture of mine is a combination of not less than 4 pictures in one. I use photo shop to composite images together, then I work on colouring and textures. A lot of people view what I do as digital art, which is true to a certain extent, but you have to keep in mind that they still are actual photographs. I don t think photo shopping takes anything away from the images, if anything it enhances them and makes them more beautiful.
