In August of 2012, they rejected, in sound fashion, a proposal for an arena and other facilities at Archer. Only 40 percent of the voters supported the idea.But that has not stopped the Fair Board from pushing. Rather than stay at Frontier Park, the event has sprawled out to Archer as well. The horse and dog shows take place there, as do the ranch rodeo events. Frontier Park remains the site for the exhibition hall, midway and livestock barns.The annual cost to the taxpayers for this split has grown to 50,000, Laramie County Fair manager (and former commissioner) Jeff Ketcham told the County Commission at a meeting last year. His hope, apparently, was that officials would spring for the funds to create all of the necessary facilities at Archer.The grounds manager for the fair, Larry Milbourn, confirmed Mr. Ketcham s motives at the same meeting: If we can have all of the grounds together, it ll save time, money and make the fair a better event for everyone.
