In an exclusive interview with Xinhua, Hadi expressed his gratitude to Chinese leaders and people for their selfless assistance to his country over a long time. He also expressed his wish to learn from China's successful experience in order to help his country through its current crises. Hadi is in China on a state visit from Tuesday to Friday at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. Talking of the just concluded Third Plenary Session of the 18th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Hadi said the plenum was of great importance and had mapped out the blueprint for China's future economic development and reform process. It had put the Chinese economy in the fast lane , he said. Hadi said Yemen and China enjoyed a long history of relations, and that the two sides had maintained a profound friendship since the establishment of diplomatic ties more than 50 years ago. The two countries are in accord in terms of strategic goals, Hadi said. Yemen firmly adheres to the one-China policy, and China also supports Yemen's national unity, he said. Hadi listed examples of China's selfless and practical assistance to Yemen and expressed the Yemeni people's admiration of the Chinese people. They often talk about the Sana-Hodeidah highway built with Chinese assistance, he said. The Sana a-Hodeidah highway runs from the shores of the Red Sea at the port city of Hodeidah to the capital Sana a. It was completed in 1961 with a loan from the Chinese government in 1958. Hadi said the meetings with Chinese leaders would focus on enhancing bilateral political, economic and trade relations, in particular economic cooperation. Yemen, a devastated country that needs to improve electricity and water supply systems as well as rebuilding roads and airports, looks for China's help in the construction of infrastructure, Hadi said. The president said he welcomed Chinese investment in Yemen, which had developed a series of plans for economic development. A lot of projects need investment from China and other countries in such areas as tourism, infrastructure, health, oil and gas, he said. Hadi condemned the recent terrorist attack in Beijing's Tian'anmen Square, which killed two civilians and injured another 40. Terrorism has become a global issue, which needs joint efforts from the international community, he said. He said terrorist activities were rampant in Yemen due to extreme poverty, adding one of the aims of his visit was to obtain assistance from China in developing his country's economy so young people would not be lured into terrorism. Regarding the piracy problems in the Gulf of Aden and the waters off Somalia, Hadi said the drastic piracy and smuggling of drugs and weapons were due to the poverty in Somalia and Yemen, which he described as two poor lands looking at each other across the sea . He expressed his appreciation of the escort mission and anti-piracy efforts exerted by the international community, including China, saying that to eradicate poverty needed international cooperation. Hadi said no matter how long the conflicts in Syria and Libya lasted, the final and best solution was to break the impasse through dialogue. He took Yemen's internal conflict in 2011 as an example, saying with the help of the international community, Yemen had succeeded in avoiding a civil war by disarming the combatants, sitting around the negotiation table, and inking the power transfer deal brokered by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Hadi also introduced the Yemeni national reconciliation process, saying a national dialogue had achieved considerable progress, which he believed would lead his country to peace and stability. We solve problems in a peaceful way. The key is to safeguard Yemen's security, stability and unity, he said. Many face unemployment, difficult living conditions and xenophobia in the host country, say expertsCAIRO, 23 October 2008 (IRIN) - The Centre for Migration and Refugee Studies and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) have launched a on primary health care among Sudanese refugee and migrant communities in Cairo, focusing on avian and pandemic influenza preparedness. About 50 cases of avian influenza (bird flu) have been identified in Egypt since 2003; 22 people have died. The aim of the research was to design recommendations for pandemic preparedness based on a bottom-top approach that engages migrant communities. “Most health programmes in Cairo target UNHCR [UN Refugee Agency] recognised refugees. Rejected asylum-seekers, non-registered refugees and economic migrants are a particularly vulnerable group,†said Roberto Pitea, research and project assistant with IOM. They tend to live in crowded urban areas where poultry are reared on rooftops, which puts them at risk. Sudanese migrant and refugee communities were the focus of the study. “The Sudanese community tends to access health services provided by non-governmental actors, whereas pandemic response will be led by government,†he said. The Integrated National Plan for Avian and Human Influenza and the National Pandemic Preparedness Plan are Egypt’s answer to a possible pandemic. “Neither of these plans have a migrants’ component,†said Rebecca Dibb, one of the main researchers on the report produced by the Centre for Migration and Refugees Studies (CMRS) at the American University in Cairo. In Cairo, the research team gathered data from Sudanese migrants about access to health care, water and sanitation, and also tested awareness about avian influenza. Photo: Sudanese children in EgyptVulnerable “The findings reveal that Sudanese migrants would be vulnerable in a pandemic, not only because they do not feature in the national pandemic preparedness programme of Egypt, but also because they do not have a sufficient level of awareness of the pandemic, and they are rarely mainstreamed into the work of civil society and international organisations involved in pandemic preparedness work,†said the report, launched on 22 October. Coordinated efforts are seen as vital to bridging this awareness gap: “National actions must be combined with simultaneous actions in the community, by the media and other relevant sectors. Combined efforts can ensure the Sudanese community is equipped with the awareness required to see behavioral change,†said Yasmine Moataz, another researcher who worked on the report. Distrust One challenge is the degree of mistrust between refugee communities and the authorities. “There is mistrust of information especially from the authorities in Egypt and in the public services. Migrants see that the services provided are discriminatory and that it’s a lower service quality than that provided by NGOs,†said Dibb. Photo: One of UNHCR’s targets for 2008-2009 is for some 5,000 Sudanese refugees to return to their country voluntarilyA young Sudanese migrant attending the presentation of the report said: “When refugees here get serious diseases like HIV/AIDS, they get deported. How can I trust the government?†“Trust should be established between the different parties. If there is networking between the two stakeholders [the government and NGOs], it is going to be better for the migrant and refugee communities,†said Moataz. The report recommends NGOs advocate migrant-sensitive health policies to increase the level of trust between the Sudanese and health service officials. Refugees, migrants According to Africa and Middle East Refugee Assistance (), an NGO promoting the legal protection of asylum-seekers and refugees, Egypt hosts the fifth largest urban refugee population in the world, mainly concentrated in Cairo and Alexandria. Official sources say there are 50,000 refugees in Egypt, but NGOs and researchers estimate there are about . According to , an expert on refugees in Egypt, "estimates for the number of refugees in Egypt vary from 500,000 to 3,000,000; however… it is impossible to give an accurate figure." Some say the Sudanese are the biggest foreign population in Egypt. The has estimated them at 23,700 in 2008. Many experts say there are far more. la/at/cb ugg boots australia would generate a combined $67.2 million that year in local sales taxes,
